Pa. Mountain Voices at Curwensville Library

CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Public Library will be anything but quiet on Monday as a special guest performs traditional and folk music.
A special program, “Pennsylvania Mountain Voices” will be performed by Bruce R. Young of State College at the library beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The traditional music and song of the Pennsylvania Mountains has played a significant role in the history of the Commonwealth, as oral history and as a tool for education and socialization, according to information from Young. He will perform examples of traditional and period music on fiddle, banjo, guitar and dulcimer to explore the folk music of central Pennsylvania.

This presentation is a program of the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, supported in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

The PHC inspires people to come together and share a life of learning. Since 1973, the PHC has provided resources that empower local groups to help their communities explore history, literature, the arts, and the ideas that shape the human experience.

The program is also sponsored by both the GFWC Curwensville Woman’s Club Library Committee and the Curwensville-Pike Township Historical Society.
