Sandy Makes Offer to DuBois

DUBOIS – The Sandy Township Board of Supervisors decided to substantially increase its previous offer to DuBois City in hopes of ending the sewage litigation between the two entities.

When the Sandy Township Supervisors went into executive session at the end of Tuesday’s meetings, it was said that it could be hours before the supervisors again resume the public portion of their meeting. The media and residents left, with the supervisors promising to provide an update on any action taken.

What transpired was a 3-0 vote (Jim Jeffers and Ray Anderson were absent) to direct the solicitor to respond to the city with a new offer.

That agreement provides for a settlement of $4.55 per 1,000 gallons starting Jan. 1, 2007, a figure higher than the $3.15 rate recommended by the township’s expert in court. The township is also asking for forgiveness of an approximately $630,000 debt. That figure is the difference between what the township has been paying the cty in 2005 and 2006 and the settlement offer.

Clearfield County Senior Judge John K. Reilly Jr. ordered that the township pay $6.92 per 1,000 gallons in his May 2005 order.

The township would also agree to not seek a permit to build its own sewage treatment plant.

Correspondence from the township showed that the offer is contingent uon a requirement that the city join with the township in forming a joint sewage authority.
