Five to 20 Years for Punxsutawney Rapist

CLEARFIELD – Robert Wolfe III, 28, of Punxsutawney will spend the next five to 20 years in a state correctional institution after entering a guilty plea to 10 counts each of rape and aggravated indecent assault and one count of corruption of minors.

In addition to the jail sentence, Wolfe will spend five years on probation for his actions, which included molesting a girl when she was between the ages of 5 and 17 in Bell Township.

“He’s a danger to the community,” Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. said prior to the sentence being handed down by Clearfield County Judge Paul. E. Cherry.

Testimony was also heard before sentencing, which led Cherry to rule that Wolfe is a sexually violent predator under Megan’s Law. The statute is aimed at ensuring that community members know who offenders are and where they live.

Because of his classification, Wolfe will have to verify his address every 90 days and will have his photo, name and address posted on Pennsylvania’s Megan’s Law Web site.

The charges were filed earlier this year on information that Wolfe molested a girl for more than 12 years, although criminal counts were only for incidents that happened after he turned 18.

Before sentencing, Wolfe made no statement, but Cherry said that Wolfe’s acts were reprehensible.
