Curwensville Lake to receive Walleye stocking

CURWENSVILLE – For the third year in a row, the Curwensville Anglers Restocking Program will stock Curwensville Lake with Walleyes.

Volunteers are needed to meet at the boat launch at Curwensville Lake Sunday. Set-up begins at noon, with stocking at 1 p.m. Volunteers will load boats and stock out of boats.

Nets and buckets will be provided, but motorboats, pontoon boats and others are still needed, and spectators are always welcome.

There will be no admission charge to enter the lake, and more than 3,000 Walleyes ranging from 5 to 12 inches will be stocked.

CARP started the Walleye-stocking program in 2004 by stocking over 1,300 walleye in the 10- to 12-inch range in Curwensville Lake. In 2005, they stocked over 3,000 mature size Walleye, and this year they will be stocking over 2,700 ranging in size from 5- to 12-inches. The three Walleye stockings by CARP have invested over $20,000 to improve the Curwensville Lake and West Branch of the Susquehanna fishery.

Through donations and their annual Crappie, Carp, Catfish, and Groundhog hunt tournaments, the Curwensville anglers finance the Walleye stockings.

The Curwensville Anglers Restocking Program is a nonprofit organization sponsored by P.J. Bressler’s Bait and More. The purpose of CARP is to revitalize and enhance the fish population at Curwensville Lake (West Branch of the Susquehanna River).

Their goal is to teach future anglers the importance of preserving and maintaining our waterways.

Meetings are held on last Tuesday of each month at the Curwensville Moose at 7 p.m.
