Sunnyside and River Hill Co-Gen Plant Update

CLEARFIELD – It’s still unknown which ethanol plant, BioEnergy or Sunnyside, will be the first to begin production in Clearfield County, but Sunnyside is taking major strides on their way.

At the August meeting of the Clearfield County Industrial Development Authority, it was learned that the CCIDA was considering applying for state funding on behalf of Pittsburgh-based Sunnyside Ethanol LLC.

On Wednesday, Clearfield County Economic Development Corp. Director Rob Swales said the IDA had applied to two state entites on behalf of Sunnyside.

Sunnyside is loooking for $825,000 in remediation monies to be used at the site of the former Howes Leather Co. in Curwensville. The site is home to about 33,000 tons of residual waste.

“The funding would support one of the structures Sunnyside would need,” Swales said.

Sunnyside’s plans call for an ethanol plant, an electricity co-generation plant and a carbon dioxide recovery plant with an estimated price tag of $176.5 million.

On the River Hill co-generation plant side of things, Swales said the company is closing on their bond financing, and once that is closed things can start to move along.
