GANTDAILY EXCLUSIVE: BioEnergy Down to Two Sites for New Plant

CLEARFIELD – From six to two.

That’s the latest word on BioEnergy LLC, the second of two ethanol plants that announced plans to set up shop in Clearfield County.

GantDaily was the only news organization at Wednesday’s Clearfield County Industrial Development Authority meeting when Rob Swales, director of the county economic development corporation, said officials from BioEnergy were in town Tuesday and have narrowed their search from six sites to two sites.

Swales could not say where the two sites are, but did say an announcement on the final decision should come by the end of this month.

In an August press conference, Gov. Edward G. Rendell along with officials from BioEnergy and Lukoil Americas, the company for which the ethanol is being produced, announced that the plant will be operational by the summer of 2008.

The $250 million BioEnergy project will vye with that of Sunnyside Ethanol LLC, which plans to build its own plant in Curwensville.

Swales added that site work could begin by the end of the year, and construction is set to begin next year.
