CLEARFIELD – Fall seems to bring the best out in area cooks. Not too long ago, we had the Hospice Chili Bowl.
Saturday, wing aficionado’s were treated to a variety of flavors at the Jaycee’s sixth annual Wing Expo at the Clearfield County Driving Park.
Establishments from across the area showed up to help the Jaycee’s big fundraiser as well as show off new flavors.
While some flavors, such as Legends Sports Bar & Grill’s “Honeycomb” wings or R Bar’s “Hawaiian Sweet Tabenero” wings might not be regular flavors now, that doesn’t mean they might not be in the future.
Like the Chili Bowl, my goal was to try wings from every establishment. And I did. But with places offering more than just one flavor, I had to limit myself to only one. So here it goes.
-the Smokehouse: I tried their mild wings. These were good. They were smooth and tasty.
-Electric Avenue: Their “Sweet Kickin’ Cajun” wings were the first really messy wing I had. And they were spicy with a lasting bite.
-Mary’s Place: Their “Zesty Garlic Blu” had some “pop” to it. They had nice a nice, creamy garlic taste.
-Legends Sports Bar & Grill: Their “Honeycomb” wing was interesting. Sweet and garlicky. Not overpowering in any one way.
-Railroad Street: They had a very awesome “Razberry” flavored wing that was like dessert. Too bad I’m diabetic. These wings were good.
-the Alley Popper: Wings that taste like steak? Well, that’s what the Alley Popper tried, with their “Steak Wing” sauce. It was unique and tasty.
-Time Square: They had a tomato bacon sauce that had very complementary flavors.
-Adams Golden Grill: The only dry-spiced wing in the expo, the “Weezie.”While they didn’t look pretty, they did have fantastic taste.
-R Bar: Their “Sweet Hawaiian Tabenero” wings were sweet and good. ‘Nuff said.
-Mojo’s: The “Hot Teriyaki” wings weren’t hot. But there were good. Like stir fry on the bone.
I can honestly say I didn’t have a wing I didn’t like. I’ll have to see what my stomach says on that later.
