Sandy Supervisor Wants to Call Governor About I-80

DUBOIS – Recently Jefferson County went to Gov. Ed Rendell to discuss the issue of accidents on Interstate 80. Now a Sandy Township Supervisor wants the municipality to write to the governor to also express concern about their area of the highway.

Dave Sylvis said the township should join in the correspondence because when an accident happens, traffic rolls right through the township.

“Putting 25,000 vehicles into an already gridlocked area in the middle of the day isn’t safe,” added Richard Castonguay, township manager, who noted that accidents last week had detours at mile marker 101 and at the Clearfield exit.

He suggested that the detour include the Reynoldsville exit instead of one in Sandy Township.

“I think we would be willing to send a police officer to Reynoldsville if we have to,” Castonguay said.

He also noted that the traffic could be a concern for the Department of Homeland Security as well.

“Something has to be done,” Castonguay said.
