One Vehicle Accident on I-80 Leaves Driver Injured

CLEARFIELD – State police in Clearfield report that a one-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 80 Wednesday night at 11:15 p.m.

A 61-year old Karthaus man was traveling westbound on I-80 and drove off of the roadway. The vehicle traveled off of the right berm and through a grass area traveling parallel to the roadway for approximately 250-feet. The truck’s trailer turned onto its side and struck an embankment.

The truck then traveled back onto the roadway in a southwest direction across the berm and across the right lane as the trailer slid through the grass and back onto the roadway. The vehicle then rolled onto its passenger side in the westbound lane of I-80 and slid approximately 75-feet to its final resting point in the left westbound lane facing a southwest direction.

The trailer slid behind the truck dumping the load of garbage onto the roadway and right berm of the westbound lane.

The man was transported to Clearfield Hospital where he was treated for injuries. The severity of the injuries is unknown.

Police were assisted at the scene by Clearfield Emergency Management Services, Lawrence Township Fire Department, and PennDOT.
