Group Stocks Trout in Susquehanna, Another Event Planned

CLEARFIELD – Over 30 volunteers from as far away as St. Marys helped the Old Town Sportsman’s Club float stock brown trout fingerlings in the West Branch of the Susquehanna in Curwensville on Sunday. Over 7,000 trout ranging from 4 to 6 inches were stocked using floating basket carried by canoes and kayaks. The small trout were placed in riffles (fast, low water) from the Curwensville Veterans of Foreign downriver to Target Square.

The Club will be stocking the West Branch of the Susquehanna in Clearfield this Sunday, meeting at the mouth of Moose Creek below the Raftsman’s Dam at 10 a.m. Over 6,000 fingerling brown trout will be float stocked from Moose Creek downriver to Wolf Run. The organizers have permission for the day to use R.J. Corman’s Railroad as well as private landowners’ access to fill the float baskets.

Members of the Curwensville Anglers Restocking Program, St. Marys Area Middle School, Clearfield Paddling Club, Mutton Hollow Outfitters and the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce assisted the Old Town Sportsman’s Club.

The Old Town Sportsman’s Club fingerling trout stocking program is sponsored in part by Reliant Energy (the Shawville Power Plant), plus numerous organizations, businesses and individuals.
