Dismal Turn-Out for Town Hall Meeting

CLEARFIELD – If you ask someone for their input and they say nothing, can one assume that everything is OK?

That’s the question Clearfield Borough and Lawrence Township officials were asking themselves Tuesday night after local representatives outnumbered citizens by more than two to one.

“We welcome constructive criticism, and we want people to come talk to us,” Jim Leitzinger, Clearfield Borough Council president, said.

Just about every elected or appointed official for the two municipalities attended a Town Hall Meeting at Third Ward Hose Co. Tuesday, everyone from council members, supervisors, police chiefs and fire officials were on hand to field questions and hear concerns.

Leitzinger said of the handful of citizens who showed up, the big issue remained the sanitary sewer project.

Some were satisfied with the project’s progression, while another told Leitzinger that there was some “interesting engineering” in the downtown portion of the project.

The Lawrence Township Supervisors did not see anyone at their table, save for representatives of the media.

Another event could be planned in the future, but local leaders welcome residents to contact either the borough or the township with questions or comments. Leaders also welcome residents at the municipalities’ regularly scheduled meetings.
