Athlete of the Week — 9/25 – 10/1

The choice for athlete of the week for September 25th through October 1st is an easy one.

Curwensville running back/linebacker/kicker Nick Sipes is the runaway choice.

Sipes led the once-beaten Golden Tide to a convincing victory over the undefeated Johnsonburg Rams, 18-3.

Sipes rushed 27 times for 206 yards, kicked a field goal and extra point, and forced a fumble at the goal line that gave Curewnsville the momentum to win a big game on the road.

Though the athlete of the week award has nothing to do with yearly stats or career records, the fact that Sipes broke the all-time District 9 rushing record has to be mentioned. He now has a total of 4,807 yards with at least 5 games left to play.

Honorable mention for the week goes to former Clearfield quarterback Tanner Kelly. Kelly made his first collegiate start for Albright College and led them to their first win of the year. In the rout of Juniata, Kelly completed 16 of 24 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns. He also added a rushing TD.
