Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Celebrates Archaeology Month in October

HARRISBURG, Pa., (PRNewswire) — Pennsylvania will work to raise awareness and appreciation of its many archeological sites during October, which is Archaeology Month.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 23, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the Pennsylvania Archaeological Council and the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology will participate in Archaeology Day in the East Rotunda of the Capitol Building.

The main speaker, Dean Snow, professor of anthropology at Penn State University, will talk about the value of archaeology and why it’s important for Pennsylvanians. PHMC staff members will also talk about their work at
pre- historic and Native American sites.

The event is open to the public and exhibits will be on display. Archaeology professionals will be on hand for discussion and to answer questions. A school group with an archaeology curriculum will have the opportunity to learn basketry and other crafts during the event.
