Two Injured in I-80 Accident Thursday

DUBOIS – Traffic on Interstate 80 in Sandy Township was halted for quite some time Thursday morning and into the afternoon after two tractor-trailers collided in the eastbound lanes.

State police at DuBois said Douglas E. Sickels of Nazareth was traveling in the right lane when entering a construction zone near mile marker 100 at about 11:40 a.m. Sickels slowed down, but a tractor-trailer operated by Mikhail Radinsky of Reisterstown, Md., was unable to slow in time.

Radinsky’s vehicle struck the back of Sickels’ trailer, causing Radinsky’s vehicle to roll onto its right side. Sickels’ rig rolled onto its left side. Both tractor-trailers were blocking the lanes on the interstate.

Following the accident, Radinsky was transported to Altoona Regional Medical Center for treatment. He is listed in serious condition Friday.

Sickels was taken to DuBois Regional Medical Center.

Both men were wearing seat belts, and their vehicles sustained severe damage.

Sickels was towing a tanker trailer containing an unspecified material, but police reported that nothing leaked from that trailer.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Sandy Township Fire Department.
