Fire Chief Stepping Down at Year’s End

CLEARFIELD – After three-and-a-half years on the job, Clearfield Fire Chief John Williams will be stepping down at the end of the year.

Williams made the announcement at Thursday night’s Clearfield Borough Council meeting.

“I have accomplished my goal of providing to the Clearfield Fire Department that they can come together and form a single and united force of trained and skilled firefighters,” said Williams.

“We all know it had to be done for the department to survive and to provide the taxpayers of Clearfield the fire services they deserve,” added Williams.

Williams noted that this goal was not accomplished without sacrifice, to himself and others.

“I feel though it was not all in vain, for the Clearfield Fire Department now consists of some of the best trained fire and has one of the fastest and best-staffed responses in the county,” said Williams.

Williams said he enjoyed working with most oft he council.

Clearfield Borough Council President Jim Leitzinger said he was sorry to hear that Williams was stepping down.

“I think you’ve been an excellent fire chief,” said Leitzinger.

“I am in no way leaving the fire service,” said Williams. “But instead continuing on my path to becoming an an instructor and furthering my certification.”
