Clearfield Borough Wins Grant for Ball Field

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough has been approved for a $29,300 state grant to purchase the Bucky Strunk Memorial Softball Field at Sixth Street and Arnold Avenue.

“The borough council and the mayor deserve congratulations for seizing this opportunity,” state Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said. “I was informed that the borough plans to pursue other grants to make improvements to the ball field.”

Funding to purchase the 1.5-acre site was made possible through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which is administered by the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. In July, Clearfield Borough was approved for an $18,500 CCPP grant to develop a master plan for a 10-acre, riverfront recreation area.

Since June, more than $177,000 in CCPP grants have been awarded in Clearfield County.

Sept. 29 is the deadline for communities and recreation groups to apply for 2006-07 CCPP grants.

Information and grant application manuals are available on the DCNR Web site.
