Airport Breaks Ground on Parallel Taxiway

CLEARFIELD – Work is getting under way on a parallel taxiway at the Clearfield-Lawrence Township Airport.

The authority heard Wednesday that earthmoving and electrical work is started now, and more is to come in the next few weeks.

“We’ll start getting into the meat of the project pretty soon,” said A.J. Coval of Lee-Simpson Associates Inc., consulting engineers.

The project is being built parallel to runway 1-2, and work is also being done on a safety zone near the same runway.

The approximately $1 million project is being completed thanks to $988,000 in federal money with state and local shares of $26,000.

Coval said the hope is that the base is down before winter with final paving being completed in the spring.

The authority also discussed the need to move the beacon at the airport. It is no longer visible, some pilots have said.
