Clearfield Borough Police Warn of Mail Fraud Schemes

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Police were recently notified by a resident who received a letter and check in the mail.

The letter stated that he was awarded a large amount of money from a lottery.

Police would like to remind everyone that in many circumstances, this is fraud.

Many people fall victim each year to this type of fraud despite the warnings issued by law enforcement and financial institutions. Police recommend to anyone receiving a notice of winnings to contact their financial institution or local law enforcement agency for advice before replying. Police also remind the public never to release private or personal information without being sure the person receiving is a reputable person or business and can be trusted.
