Piece of Clearfield History Listed on eBay

CLEARFIELD – Run a search on eBay for Clearfield, Curwensville, DuBois, or just about any smaller Pennsylvania town, and one will find an assortment of things from milk jugs to postcards.

One item popped up on eBay last week, though, that involved a bit more.

Some research with County National Bank revealed that a 1929 $20 note from Clearfield National Bank came from a business that was located on the first floor of the Dimeling Hotel. This spot was the same location of the former coffee shop, and some have told us that “CNB” is still embossed on the door handles.

The bank closed in the 1930s due to the Great Depression and never re-opened.

A refugee of that closure, though, was a $20 note found on eBay by a GantDaily reader. That listing has sold, but similar ones for banks in Wilkes-Barre and Philadelphia are currently for sale.

As for the Clearfield note, it was sold through eBay’s Buy It Now feature for $179 on Monday.
