Check Your Statement; Processing Problems at Wal-Mart

CLEARFIELD – If you went to Wal-Mart between Aug. 2 and Aug. 4 and paid by debit or credit card, check your statement from the bank or credit card company because there could be a mistake.

GantDaily was first alerted to the issue Wednesday when a reader called and stated that her card had been debited for a purchase. She was later credited for the purchase, and still later, the debit was taken from her account twice.

Calls to local banks revealed that it was not just one type of debit or credit card that was affected.

Jami Arms, demand media manager for Wal-Mart Corporate Communications, said in an e-mail that the issue is now fixed.

“We regret that we experienced some processing issues,” Arms said. “But we corrected the issues quickly with little impact on our customers.”

Anyone who discovers a discrepancy on their debit or credit card statement is being advised to contact Wal-Mart Customer Service.

The department can be reached via telephone at 1-800-WAL-MART. Customers can also visit www.walmartstores.com and click on the “Contact Us” link.

Correspondence from Wal-Mart did not indicate whether customers who overdrew their accounts due to the mistake would be reimbursed.
