Curwensville Man Dies in Car Accident

GOSHEN – A Curwensville man was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle accident Friday.

John P. Haley, 47, of 401 Riverview Drive in Curwensville, was traveling west on state Route 879 descending Shawville Hill and rounding a sharp right curve when the trailer he was hauling and the small crane on it tipped over onto its left side. The movement also caused the truck he was driving — owned by R J Corman Railroad Co. — to tip onto its left side at about 9:20 p.m.

State police at Clearfield investigated the accident and said the truck tractor continued sliding west on SR 879 and continued to roll.

The vehicle came to a rest on its roof in the middle of SR 879.

Haley was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Deputy Coroner Michael J. Polachek Jr.

Haley was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.

Members of the Lawrence Township, Bradford Township and Goshen Township fire departments, along with Clearfield Emergency Medical Services, assisted at the scene.
