Philipsburg Fire Investigated, Ruled Accidental

CHESTER HILL – A fire that caused damage in excess of $20,000 was caused by an electrical malfunction.

State police released that information Thursday morning regarding a fire that happened Wednesday at 7:20 p.m. in Chester Hill Borough.

Cpl. Thomas E. Josephson, state police fire marshal, assisted Chester Hill Hose Co. fire chiefs in investigating a fire that happened at the Matthew and Sommer Riggleman residence on Walton Street.

Josephson reported that a quick response by responding fire companies contained the fire in the attic.

The exact amount of damage in the incident is still not known, but Josephson said it is expected to exceed $20,000.
