Explosion Happens as Drill Hits Pocket of Natural Gas

CLEARFIELD – No evacuations were required when a drilling truck hit a pocket of natural gas while working in the Glen Richey area Tuesday afternoon.

Lawrence Township Police were called to Flood Road for a possible explosion after the explosion happened at about 2:22 p.m.. Police arrived with the fire department to handle the situation.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency reports that the truck caught on fire as well as a 1,500 gallon diesel fuel tank.

PEMA did not release any information regarding injuries. The scene was cleared just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Department of Environmental Protection and the state fire commissioner were also notified of the incident.
