Area Fire Companies Awarded Grants

HARRISBURG – State Rep. Camille “Bud” George, D-74 of Houtzdale, said Wednesday that 48 volunteer fire companies and ambulance squads in Clearfield County have been approved for more than $419,000 in state grants.

“We all benefit when our volunteers can focus on saving lives rather than raising funds,” Rep. George said. “The organizations are the core of community safety and save Pennsylvanians an estimated $6 billion every year.”

The 2005-06 Volunteer Fire Company, Volunteer Ambulance Service grants are used to purchase or upgrade equipment, train volunteers, build or renovate buildings and reduce qualified debt. 

Fire companies and ambulance squads in the 74th Legislative District to win funding were:

● Clearfield Emergency Medical Services Inc., $5,191.

● Clearfield Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1, $9,590.

● Columbia Fire Co. No. 1, Osceola Mills, $9,500.

● Community Volunteer Fire Dept., Mahaffey, $9,500.

● Elk Hose Co., Clearfield, $9,500.

● Glen Hope Fire Co., $9,500.

● Glendale Volunteer Fire Dept., Engine Co. No. 1, $9,500.

● Goshen Township Volunteer Fire Co., $9,500.

● Grampian-Penn-Bloom Volunteer Fire Co., $9,500.

● Grassflat Volunteer Fire. Co., $9,500.

● Houtzdale Fire Co. No. 1, $9,500.

● Houtzdale-Ramey Emergency Medical Services, $4,362.

● Hyde Volunteer Fire Co., $11,076.

● Irvona Fire Co., $9,500.

● Irvona Volunteer Ambulance Service, $5,473.

Rep. George reminded the fire and ambulance companies that they still must sign and submit a grant agreement by Sept. 18. The form, authorizing disbursal of the approved grants, is available at the state fire commissioner’s Web site, www.osfc.state.pa.us.
