Philipsburg Area Hospital auction canceled

PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg Area Hospital won’t be hitting the auction block Tuesday as planned.

The hospital’s contents were set for auction Tuesday morning, but that auction has now been canceled, according to information posted with Centurion Service Group and Clear Bid Inc., the companies in charge of the hospital’s sale.

Centurion reported on its Web site that the sale was canceled due to “bulk purchase,” although what that means was not immediately clear.

The hospital closed April 12 with debt totaling about $8 million.

The Philipsburg Area Hospital, a 50-bed facility, was reopened by Moshannon Valley Citizens Inc. in December 1992. The Philipsburg State General Hospital, the center’s former name, was forced to close in March 1991.

GantDaily will provide more information as it becomes available.
