Summer might be winding down, but Shaw Library has plenty to offer

CLEARFIELD – The final week of summer reading programming concludes next week at the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library in Clearfield.  Monday night will be the final Family Reading Night for the 2006 Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales program.  The evening will include games and a sundae social.

Clearfield County Dairy Princess, Noelle Laborde has been invited to attend the event to help out with the evening’s festivities.  The program begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, the “Read to Me” age group will have Snuggle and Stuffed Tales story time at 10:30 a.m. or 1 p.m.

Game Day is on the agenda for the school-age group A at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and for school-age group B Thursday, also at 10:30 a.m.

All area summer readers in Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales and Creature Feature are reminded to get their reading tickets in for the end of summer drawings by July 29 at 5 p.m.  The prize drawing date will be announced next week.

With the conclusion of the summer reading program, the library is kicking off the first event of the Summers Up youth lineup.  Any area youth who would like to join the Read with Friends program can stop by the library to pick up a reading log and information sheet.

“The program is really quite simple, stated Paula Marshall, library director, “The youth commits to read with friends to earn a certificate and a chance to win a prize to be drawn on Aug. 29.”

Also slated for Summers Up programming is a carnival in early August for all ages and the Rock and Roll Library Show, featuring The High Strung  for teens Aug. 15 at 6 p.m.  Watch GantDaily for more details on both of these programs.

Assistance from the Commonwealth Libraries, the Family Literacy grant, the United Way, Friends of the Shaw Public Library and private donations make the summer programs possible.

Shaw Public Library is open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
