Local man took part in creating new youth hunting program

CLEARFIELD – It’s not often that a Clearfield County resident has the chance to take part in starting something big.

On Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Game Commission made the announcement that a new way to introduce the next generation to hunting now exists, and Clearfield resident Patrick Domico was there because of his work in helping to create the Pennsylvania Mentored Youth Hunting Program.

The program officially begins Saturday and allows for children under the age of 12 to accompany a properly licensed adult who is over the age of 21 into the woods to hunt for woodchucks (groundhogs) and spring gobbler. During the 2007-08 hunting season, antlered deer will also be allowed.

Domico was recognized at an event in Harrisburg Tuesday for his role in starting the program. Domico said the Pennsylvania Mentored Youth Hunting Program is the first program of its kind in the entire United States.
