Boy dies in weekend car accident

FRENCHVILLE – A 9-year-old Karthaus boy died in a one-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon in Covington Township.

State Police at Clearfield aren’t releasing the boy’s name, but they have said that a truck operated by a 16-year-old Clearfield boy was driving on Sportsman’s Road when he lost control of his vehicle and struck an embankment. The truck then overturned, coming to rest on the driver’s side door.

The 9-year-old was taken to Clearfield Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Clearfield County Deputy Coroner Michael J. Polachek Jr.

The 16-year-old driver and two passengers in the car, an 11-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, suffered minor injuries. Neither the driver, nor the passengers were wearing seat belts.

Police were assisted at the scene by Karthaus Fire Co.
