Parade marches on at Brockway, but rain dampers the big show

BROCKWAY – Years ago the Fourth of July was celebrated a bit differently. Brockway, Jefferson County, brought back some of yesteryear with their annual Brockway Old-Fashioned Fourth.

A weekend full of activities led to the parade on Main Street Tuesday. Other events included games for the kids, a fiddle contest and a car show.

Evening fireworks on Tuesday caused disappointment among some families. Smoke from the show obscured the sky, preventing the awesome colors of the pyrotechnic display from shining through. In fact, the smoke hung so low that many people gathered in Taylor Memorial Park were not able to view the show.

The celebration wraps up Wednesday with a friends of the library bag sale at Mengle Memorial Library.
