Fair ‘Idol’ applications accepted through Friday

CLEARFIELD – Can you combine a soulful sound with a jive like Taylor Hicks? Or can you belt out a ballad just like Katharine McPhee?

If so, the Clearfield County Fair wants you!

Applications for the 2006 Fair Amateur Idol contest are being accepted through Friday at the Clearfield County Fair office in the Clearfield Driving Park. The application can be found online at www.clearfieldcountyfair.com.

All contestants will be judged in three categories: music, presentation and singing.

Contestants will sing July 30 beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the grandstand stage. However, if more than 150 people sign up for the contest, a sing-off will be held July 16 at the driving park. Contestants will receive information and their contestant number by mail.

Contestants must be 13 years old or older and be able to sing a cappella on July 30. Fifteen finalists will be selected to sing on the David H. Litz Grove Stage Aug. 1-3. One person from each day’s competition will sing on Aug. 4 for the grand prize.

The first-place winner will receive $500, tickets to the Saturday night show at the fair and prize packs. Second place will receive $200 and prize packs, and third place will win $75 and prize packs.
