Bigler YMCA’s Strawberry Festival draws a crowd

BIGLER – It might have been the sweet summertime fruit that brought people to the Bigler YMCA on Saturday, but it was the sense of community that made them stay.

For many years, the Bigler YMCA has hosted the Strawberry Festival to raise money for summer programs, and this year was no different.

Plenty of sweet treats were offered for sale, from strawberry shortcake to brownies and ice cream.

Russ Krise, executive director of the Bigler YMCA, said Saturday’s turnout was a good one, and he said that the warm weather definitely helped.

But the festival wasn’t just about some sweet treats. All of the money raised, from the food sales to the Chinese auction, went to help in paying for the YMCA’s summer playground program.

Other events Saturday included a kickball tournament, T-ball games, musical entertainment and a baton exhibition from the Daisies.
