DUBOIS – An incident that began with a chase involving a Sandy Township police officer led to a collision and a subsequent investigation by state police at DuBois.

Reports say Jason Gill, a Sandy Township patrolman, saw a Mitsubishi driving at a high rate of speed at the intersection of Brady Street and Dixon Avenue in Sandy Township Sunday. The officer pursued the vehicle onto state Route 219 and then onto SR 119 toward U.S. Route 322. Gill said he saw the Mitsubishi pass a vehicle while another was coming in the opposite direction. Both of the other vehicles were forced off of the roadway.

Gill continued to follow the Mitsubishi on U.S. 322 toward Reynoldsville when the Mitsubishi turned around on Reynoldsville-Sykesville Road in Winslow Township, Jefferson County. It was at that point that the Mitsubishi collided with the patrol vehicle of Gill.

State police at DuBois are investigating the incident, which is being classified as aggravated assault by vehicle.
