More appointments made to Local Emergency Management Planning Committee

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Local Emergency Management Planning Committee gained a few new members Tuesday.

DuBois City Police Chief Ronald LaRotonda, Clearfield Borough Police Chief Jeff Rhone and Lieutenant Todd Lombardo of the Morris-Cooper Regional Police Department were all approved to join the committee by the Clearfield County Commissioners.

Bill Swatsworth, Clearfield County Emergency Management Agency director, said the goal of the committee is two-fold.

“It has a duel role: to plan for hazardous events and to act as an advisory council.”

Through that role, the 25 people who make up the committee (five fire delegates, five emergency medical services, five police, five elected/EMA officials and five industry/at-large) provide suggestions to the Clearfield County Commissioners.

While the group provides input to the county’s leaders, the commissioners have the final word on what is approved with respect to emergency preparedness.

Swatsworth also noted that the Clearfield County EMA unveiled a new Web site two weeks ago. The site, www.clearfield911.com, is a space for all types of answers dealing with 911 and emergencies from news to contact information.

The advisory council meets on the third Thursday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Clearfield County 911 Center.
