Former police officer to go to trial

CLEARFIELD – Normally when police officers go to court, they sit next to the district attorney or an assistant district attorney, ready to testify about the details of an alleged crime. That will not be the case Wednesday and Thursday when Matt Houser, a former Lawrence Township police officer, will sit on the defendant’s side of the courtroom as he goes to trial for two cases.

The first case alleges that Houser, 28, of Clearfield, threw another man to the ground while in the parking lot of the Days Inn in Clearfield May 4, 2005. In the second case, it is alleged that Houser went to a Uni-Mart in Curwensville while wearing a police uniform and in a police car to talk to a woman whom he thought witnessed the altercation at Days Inn.

The case is scheduled to be heard before Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman over two days.

GantDaily will provide updates throughout the two days’ testimony.
