Minor accident leads police to stolen vehicle

LECONTES MILLS – Police who investigated an accident that happened in Girard Township June 6 just might have solved the case of a car that was reported stolen years ago.

Stephen B. Galbary of Coatesville was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed on Gillingham Road at about 8:25 p.m., according to state police at Clearfield,  when he lost control of his vehicle, traveling onto property owned by James Samsel of Frenchville and damaging several shrubs and two trees.

Galbary fled the scene, but he was followed by several of Samsel’s neighbors. Galbary’s vehicle then got stuck in a mud puddle about one mile away from the scene.

Police are continuing their investigation. Troopers also reported that the vehicle Galbary was driving was reported stolen in 1999. The vehicle was never recovered after the report was made.

It is not known if Galbary was wearing his seat belt, but he did suffer minor injuries.
