CCRTA recognizes those who have helped to promote tourism

CURWENSVILLE – Once each year, the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority meets at Curwensville Lake, and this year, some people, groups and businesses enjoyed more than just an afternoon meeting outdoors Wednesday.

Since Sandy Fink Barrett became the director of the CCRTA in December 2004, a lot has happened with the CCRTA, and the organization thanked those who have helped along the way.

Nancy Micks, president and CEO of the Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce, was recognized with the “Got It” award. The Strawberry Tree of Curwensville and the B.P.O. Elks of Clearfield were both recognized. (The Elks was regognized for the High Country Arts Festival, planned for July 9 at S.B. Elliot State Park.)

Leon Meyer, manager of the Clearfield County Fair, received the Mover and Shaker award.

The CCRTA also recognized Nelson Barrett for helping with setting up for various events and with promoting tourism in Clearfield County.

In other news, the CCRTA also received $106 after the crappie tournament. The money came due to a donation of $1 per attendee. It was noted that the winning fish was just 1 1/2 inches shorter than the state record crappie. Proceeds from the tournament are used to stock the lake each year.
