Cable prices on the rise in Lawrence Township

CLEARFIELD – Those who use cable to get their tube time will have to start forking over a bit more as they enjoy their TV dinners.

The Lawrence Township Supervisors announced Tuesday that the cost of cable through Atlantic Broadband, the cable provider for Lawrence Township residents, is going up.

Ed Brown, supervisor, said, “Their rates are (going up) directly in response to the same thing we’re dealing with: fuel.”

In fact, a letter from Atlantic Broadband to the supervisors said: “Increased programming expenses as well as the significant rise in energy prices – impacting our fleet and vehicle costs – result in the need for us to make adjustments to the price of various services effective with the June 2006 billing statement.”

The cost of many services is going up by about 50 to 55 cents per month. For example, basic cable used to cost $15.95, but this month will cost $16.45. For value cable, the cost was $47.45, but now that price is $49.99. Premium channels are also increasing in price, from $12.95 to $13.95.

Atlantic Broadband has been the cable company for Lawrence Township for two years.
