DUBOIS, Pa. — The DuBois City Council voted 6-1 on Wednesday night to completely dissolve the city’s Environmental Advisory Committee.
The council’s meeting agenda originally included the formal appointment of six individuals to serve on the seven-person advisory board.
During the public comment period, Dr. Harold “Hank” Webster requested that the City Council quickly appoint a seventh member to round out the full committee. The evening’s agenda listed Webster as one of the six impending nominees. According to Webster, the group had already held preliminary discussions among themselves and planned to schedule regular meetings on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.
When originally approved by council members in January, the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) incorporated the city’s former Beautification Committee. The group was designed to function strictly as a volunteer research and advisory body, carrying no taxpayer-funded compensation or legal authority.
However, when the City Council reached the EAC item on the agenda, Council Member Sam Mollica introduced a motion to disband the committee entirely instead of voting on the six nominees. The motion passed in a 6-1 vote.
