HYDE-Despite all the changes in the schedule due to the spring weather, and field conditions, the Clearfield Bison somehow managed to see the Senior Day celebration on Monday not be affected one bit. Six Bison players got to step forward and be honored for their time on the team for all their contributions and moments. Directly afterwards, the team got in game mode, as the Tyrone Golden Eagles came forward to give them a challenge after being beaten at their home field earlier in the season.
Senior Day proved to be success day for Clearfield. The team scored early, and often, taking charge to achieve an 11-5 victory to sweep Tyrone on the season.
The opening score came when Colton Bumbarger, one of six seniors honored on the day, managed to get on base when Colton Frye’s throw for the out soared wide. The error brought Jayce Brothers home for the score, and the lone lead change on the day. Two batters later, Connor Peacock ground out to third, but it was enough to bring O’Brian Owens across the plate for the second run of the inning.

The second inning saw Clearfield open the game up to where it was out of reach. Rex Butler blasted a 1-1 offering from starting pitcher, Jon Stroup, into center field. The two-RBI brought in Noah Wriglesworth and Brothers, while also moving Owens to third as Kaiden Kustenbauder mishandled the ball. Shortly after, Tyrone made a pitching change, but it didn’t do much. A bases-loaded walk to Peacock made it 5-0, then Hayden Rumsky got hit on a full count to make it 6-0.
Stroup ultimately took the loss on the day in just one and one-third innings of work, allowing six runs while striking out one.
By contrast, Peacock had a better outing compared to his last start, going five innings while allowing only four runs. It would be his fourth win on the season for Clearfield.
The Bison added four more runs in the bottom of the third after the Golden Eagles cut the lead to 6-2. Two runs came from RBI-singles by Bumbarger and Rumsky, while a bases-loaded walk to Landon Brady and a fielding error by Braylon Plummer accounted for the other pair.
Tyrone’s most successful hit of the day came in the fifth when Conner McClure lined into left field for a two-RBI single. That was as close as the Eagles got on the day as the Bison added one more run in the sixth inning. Tyrone did get one more run in the seventh, but were left hanging and wondering what might have been.
It is a busy week for Clearfield (8-9) with four games in four days. The squad is on the road Tuesday at Bradford, a game originally scheduled for April 30 but was moved due to weather.
