CLARION COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – The 3rd Annual Appalachian Mountain STOL is set to bring high‑energy aviation action back to the Clarion County Airport (KAXQ) this weekend, May 8–9, offering a standout way to celebrate Mother’s Day Weekend.
The two‑day fly‑in and STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) competition draws pilots from across the country to showcase rapid takeoffs, precision landings, and the impressive performance of backcountry‑style aircraft.

Designed as a family‑friendly experience, the event provides an easy outdoor outing for aviation fans and first‑time spectators. This year adds even more for young visitors, with free kids’ activities, including a play area provided by Rustic Acres, face painting, and a paper airplane competition.
Visitors can also expect food trucks, open viewing areas, and the option to bring camping chairs, small coolers, and weather‑ready gear for a comfortable day at the airport.

The event takes place at Clarion County Airport, 395 Airport Rd, Shippenville, PA 16254.
With spring in full swing and outdoor recreation ramping up across the region, Appalachian Mountain STOL adds a burst of adventure to the start of May—and a memorable way to spend Mother’s Day Weekend together.
