BOGGS TWP., PA– The second annual Scouting for Scrap event will be held May 16 at the Boggs Township building, located at 150 Blue Ball Road, West Decatur, from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
This scrap drive is the largest fundraiser for the Scouting America Pack and Troop 43 based out of the Calvary United Methodist Church in West Decatur. This year’s event will be held in conjunction with the Boggs Township community cleanup day, but all are welcome to bring scrap metal to support the scouts.
Metals to be accepted are steel, tin, cast iron, appliances, metal doors and siding, stainless steel, aluminum, vehicle wheels (with tires removed), car batteries, lead, radiators, aluminum cans, Christmas lights and many other common metals.
Last year’s event was very successful thanks to the outpouring of support and the scouts hope that this year’s event will have a positive impact on the community once again.
The scrap drive is a great scout fundraising event in that it gives our neighbors and community an outlet for unwanted or accumulated scrap metals while ensuring that these materials can be used again through recycling efforts. This event is a natural niche for scouting as it leans into the scouting principles of leave no trace and doing a good turn daily.
Cleaning up accumulated metal waste can help leave the environment better than it was found while providing a lesson in the importance of recycling to the scouts.
Residents not in the West Decatur area that wish to help can take materials directly to Novey Recycling, 1661 Martin Street Extension in Clearfield and tell them that you would like to donate your scrap to the West
Decatur Scouts. The scouts extend a special thanks to the Boggs Township Supervisors and Novey Recycling for their support of this year’s event.
The West Decatur scouts are one of two Scouting America units serving the Philipsburg- Osceola School District and is the oldest chartered active scouting organization in the Bucktail District being originally charted in
1924.
