CLEARFIELD – Two men from New York State were scheduled to appear in sentencing court Tuesday to answer for felony drug charges.
Jahaun D. Ware, 23, from Amherst, NY, and Quaron Jermelle Jones, 23 of Buffalo, NY were both charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-methamphetamine in relation to an incident in DuBois City on June 3. Ware pleaded guilty to the drug charge and to misdemeanor resisting arrest. President Judge Paul E. Cherry sentenced him to serve two to five years in state prison. Jones failed to appear in court Tuesday morning and a bench warrant was issued by Cherry.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police saw a vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at a sign on West Long Avenue and activated their lights to initiate a traffic stop.
Instead of stopping, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed. Police continued to pursue the vehicle, which was going so fast it went airborne when crossing Ridge Street. It then went into an uncontrolled spin striking the brick landscaping of Life Community Church, causing major damage to the structure of the building.
The vehicle then rolled over on to its side three or four times before coming to rest on the driver’s side at the intersection of West Weber Avenue and Chestnut Street facing west.
As an officer approached the vehicle, two men ran away, as another climbed out of the front windshield. One officer chased the two men fleeing on foot but lost sight of them on Sandy Alley. One of the men, Jones, was later apprehended and taken to Penn Highlands DuBois for treatment of minor lacerations to his hand. The other two, Ware and Donte Jones, 23, also of Buffalo, NY, were tracked and taken into custody with the help of K-9 officer, Ace. They refused to go to the hospital for treatment.
After a search warrant was executed on the vehicle, police found 5.15 ounces of a substance suspected to methamphetamine, marijuana and a total of $1,040 in cash.
Donte Jones also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to serve two to five years in state prison for felony drug possession and misdemeanor resisting arrest by Cherry in December.
