HYDE — The Clearfield Lady Bison took one on the chin in their home opener Monday afternoon as they were beaten 10-0 by the visiting Lady Bearcats of Huntingdon.
Junior pitcher Alivia Nicklow scattered three hits, had nine strikeouts, and blasted a 2-run homerun to straight away centerfield in the top of the second inning to give the Bearcats a 2-0 lead that they never relinquished.
Nicklow, in just the fourth game of her junior season, set the all-time Huntingdon strikeout record during the game.
For the Lady Bison, Aevril Hayward had a double to right center, while Joell Henry singled through the right side and Haley Billotte had a perfectly placed bunt for an infield single for Clearfield’s three hits.
Megan Wisor took the loss in the circle despite only giving up three earned runs through 5 1/3 innings. She also had three strikeouts and gave up one walk.
Catcher Izadore Kazmarski led the visitors with three hits, while leadoff hitter Kendyl Wilson had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.
Each team even their record on the season, Clearfield at 1-1 and Huntingdon at 2-2.
The Lady Bison will hit the road on Wednesday when they travel to Philipsburg to face the Lady Mounties.
