CLEARFIELD CO.– The Clearfield County Sheriffs office is seeking a full-time deputy.
This position exists under the direct supervision of the Clearfield County Sheriff and will serve the Clearfield County Court of Common Pleas, assist in the prevention of crime and enforcement of laws and regulations, provide services to the citizens of Clearfield County, and assist other law enforcement agencies. The Deputy Sheriff is a sworn Officer charged with the protection of citizens, employees, and property of Clearfield County.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Service of Civil Process, Sheriff’s property levies, Writs of execution, property seizures.
- Transportation of Inmates to and from Courts, Correctional Institutions (County, State and Federal) and will assume responsibility for safety, custody, and control giving priority to the prisoner while in his/her custody.
- Service of warrants, court orders, and make arrests.
- Service of Protection from Abuse Orders, which could include eviction of the Defendant from the property, and confiscation of firearms.
- Provide security for Judges, Court activities and all persons within the Court Facility, as well as other County owned facilities.
- Provide assistance to other Law Enforcement Agencies and other County Agencies such as Probation, Domestic Relations, Children & Youth Protective Services, and Mental Health Services when needed.
- Prevention of crime, including detection and apprehension of criminals when applicable. Examining any person who is believed to be engaged in unlawful activity and investigate or assist the proper agency in the investigation of such persons or activity within the scope of his/her authority.
- Process background checks for applicants of Firearms Permits.
- Perform general administrative duties, answering phones and other routine tasks necessary to maintain the efficiency of the Sheriff’s Office.
- Subject to call out for Bench Warrants, and in times of emergency.
- Able to react productively with the ability to change and handle other essential duties as assigned.
Job Specifications:
Deputy Sheriff – Full Time, 40 hour Week / Part Time – As directed/Variable Hrs.
- Education – High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of the Pennsylvania Deputy Sheriffs Training Academy (Act 2) or Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Municipal Police Academy (Act 120). Required to complete 10 hours of update training yearly. Must qualify in the use of Firearms yearly.
- Experience – Law enforcement experience preferred.
- General Requirements
- Ability to speak and write English effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work effectively in a team-oriented organization.
- Ability to understand and follow complex oral and/or written instructions.
- Ability to make decisions in high stress situations, using good judgment and acting in accordance with established policies, procedures, and the Law.
- Specific Requirements
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and employ appropriate radio communications.
- Knowledge of State and Local Criminal Laws and Civil procedures
- Knowledge of Court procedures.
- If not currently Certified, Applicant will be required to attend Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Training Academy (760 Hours) and meet all physical fitness requirements as required by Academy polices and standards.
