SHARON — The 2025-26 season came to an end Saturday for the five remaining Golden Tide wrestlers in the postseason at Northwest Regionals at Sharon High School.
Kael McGary (107), Russell Bloom (114), Reed Hawkins (172) and Brooks Hendershot (285) all lost their first consolation bout Saturday morning, eliminating them from the tournament, while Caleb Hendershot (215) won his opener before bowing out in the consolation quarterfinals.
Caleb Hendershot downed Brockway’s Madox Decker 5-3. Hendershot scored the opening takedown in the first period before a quick escape from Decker made it 3-1. Decker chose bottom to start the second and tied the bout 10 seconds in with a reversal. Hendershot escaped later in the period to go back on top 4-3, added a third-period escape and held on for the 2-point decision.
Unfortunately for Hendershot, his season came to a close in the next round when Fort LeBoeuf’s Dan Duran picked up a second-period fall over the Tide junior to knock him out of the tournament. Hendershot ended his season with a record of 14-9.
McGary was pinned by Fort LeBoeuf’s Denny Church in the second period of their bout. McGary finished his freshman campaign with a record of 23-14.
Bloom was knocked out of the tournament by St. Marys’ JJ Hanslovan 11-7. Hanslovan got out to a 6-0 lead when he scored a takedown with 24 seconds left in the first and added three nearfall points before the end of the period. Bloom battled back to make it 6-4, but a reversal and two back points had Hanslovan on top 10-4 heading to the third. Bloom recorded a takedown with 52 seconds left to cut his deficit to 10-7, but Hanslovan escaped to set the final. Bloom ended his sophomore season with a 21-13 mark.
Hawkins gave up a takedown to Clearfield’s Tim Taylor with four seconds left in the first period to fall behind 3-0 then, after a quick escape to start the second, was taken down again to fall behind 6-1. Hawkins picked up a third-period takedown to close the gap, but ended up on the wrong end of an 8-4 decision. Hawkins finished his junior year at 24-13.
Brooks Hendershot was injured in his quarterfinal loss to Titusville’s Bryce Watkins and was unable to wrestle on Saturday, medically forfeiting to Franklin’s Kaden Kiselka to end his senior season at 27-14. Hendershot finished his 3-year varsity career with 63 wins.
