CLEARFIELD – During colloquy court Monday, a Morrisdale man pleaded guilty to felony counts of statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors for impregnating a 15-year old girl.
Louis Carl Young, 26, was sentenced to serve nine months to 18 months in the county jail with three years probation by Judge Joshua Maines.
It was noted by District Attorney Ryan Sayers that Young had an evaluation, but it was decided he did not meet the criteria to be classified as a sexually violent predator. He will still have to register with authorities under Megan’s Law.
Young was also ordered to complete sex offender counseling and have no unsupervised contact with any female under the age of 18, with the exception of the victim and their child.
Prior to sentencing his attorney, Ryan Dobo asked for a county sentence because Young did not have any prior offenses other than a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia charge. Young has served six months of his sentence already, he added. He mentioned that the victim did want to continue having a relationship with him because of the child.
Maines asked the victim if she preferred Young do his time in the county jail or at state prison. After consulting with her family and Margie Rosselli of the Victim Witness office, she confirmed a county sentence was alright and that she wanted to be able to have contact with him.
Maines stated that he would go with the county sentence even though this is a “serious matter” because of the victim’s wishes and also because of Young’s lack of a serious criminal record.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police received a report from Childline regarding a 16-year old victim who was pregnant with the father being about ten years older. Later this man was identified as Young.
An investigation revealed that the girl who was then 15, engaged in sexual activity with Young at a Cooper Township residence in October 2024.
