CURWENSVILLE- Come along on a whimsical visit over the rainbow with the students of Curwensville Area High School as they present “The Wizard of Oz.”
The musical is based on the beloved MGM motion picture which was originally produced in 1939 and still continues to enchant young and old. The Land of Oz will come to the stage of the Dr. Leslie D. Leach Auditorium at 7 p.m. on March 5, 6, and 7.
This timeless musical adventure will transport audiences on an unforgettable journey with Dorothy, Toto, and their loyal companions as they follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City. The cast includes Rylee Tkacik as Dorothy, Sophia Murawski as Hunk/Scarecrow, Jackson Stephens as Hickory/Tin Man, and Ethan Anderson as Zeke/Cowardly Lion. Rounding out the main cast are Cooper Kendall as Uncle Henry/Emerald City Guard, Caitlynn Irwin as Aunt Em/Glinda, Isabella Wood as Almira Gulch/Wicked Witch of the West, and Tyus Penvose
as Professor Marvel/The Wizard of Oz. The Ensemble will take on the roles of munchkins, winkies, poppies, jitterbugs, flying monkeys, and other supporting characters, to help bring this classic story to the stage. In addition to the cast, there are vital offstage contributors working as members of the crew, constructing sets, running tech, and playing in the orchestra, without whom there would be no show.
Filled with the familiar Harold Arlen & E. Y. Harburg songs from the iconic film based on the book by L. Frank Baum, the score includes “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Merry Old Land of Oz,” “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” “If I Only Had a Brain/a Heart/the Nerve,” and more. The show celebrates friendship and bravery as the main characters bond together to search for their hearts’ desires and, in the end, warmly reminds us that there really is no place like home.
“The Wizard of Oz” will be performed at 7:00 p.m. on March, 5, 6, and 7 at Curwensville Area High School. All seating is assigned, and tickets are $9 each.
