Lady Bison Take 2nd Place at Southern Huntingdon Tourney

THREE SPRINGS — The Clearfield Lady Bison wrestling team, despite only competing with six girls, took second place at the Southern Huntingdon tournament on Saturday, February 7.

Going 18-5 combined overall, their 158.5 team points was second only to Juniata’s 177 points in the 16 team field.

Earning first place were Makayla Taylor at 155 and Jocelyn Nixon at 190.  Silver medalists were Ivy Sanders at 124, Angela Rougeux at 130, and Alara Quickel at 148. In fifth place was Margaret Duke at 136.

Taylor (16-5), currently ranked fourth in the state, went 3-0 with three pins. Below she gets her hand raised after pinning Southern Huntingdon’s Chloe Holloway (13-5).

Nixon (14-6) had two first period falls to claim her title.

Sanders (18-10) had three falls before pinned by United’s Chloe Stiles (28-4).

Rougeux (21-8) had four first period falls and a major decision before being pinned near the end of the second period against Juniata’s Brea Howard (21-7) while going 5-1 for the day.

Quickel (14-8) had three first period falls, her lone loss being a third period pin by Philipsburg-Osceola’s Kendyl Meersand (14-5).

Duke (6-11) went 2-2 on the day, getting a pin and a tech fall for her two wins.

Next up for the Lady Bison will be the District 5, 6, and 9 Championships at Altoona on February 21.

The Clearfield Junior High team also took second place at Southern Huntingdon. Next up for the is the PJW Area 5 state qualifying tournament in Clearfield on Sunday February 15.
