CURWENSVILLE — The Curwensville girls basketball team fell behind visiting North Star 13-4 after one quarter Wednesday at Patton Hall and trailed the Lady Cougars 23-8 at the half.
The slow start cost the Lady Tide, who played the visitors even (25-25) in the second half in a 48-33 loss.
Briah Peoples scored 19 points to lead Curwensville, which also got seven points from Addison Warren.
Peoples netted nine of her points in the third quarter, helping the Lady Tide outscore North Star 10-8 in the frame. She netted eight more in the fourth, going 6-of-7 from the free throw line in the period, while Warren knocked down 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the stanza.
Mary Johnston (13) and Peyton Smeak (10) scored in double digits for North Star, which improved to 10-8.
Curwensville slipped to 3-16 on the season.
The Lady Tide travel to Clarion Monday, Feb. 9.
