COMMODORE — The 2025-2026 campaign for the Curwensville Golden Tide has been one of struggle, as the team has only managed two wins on the season. Although there’s been moments of spark, it has led to a lot of frustration. With only five games remaining on the season, four being on the road, the Tide made the trip on Tuesday to Commodore for a battle alongside the Red Dragons of Purchase Line.
Curwensville had a strong start to the game, coming out aggressively and keeping it close through 16 minutes. After halftime, they faltered, forcing them to play from behind. The Tide would battle tough till the end, but would fall in a 53-47 final.
The first quarter was low scoring for both teams, as they would combine for just 14 points in eight minutes. Curwensville kept the 8-6 advantage at the end of the quarter, but the Red Dragons began firing back in the second.
Purchase Line would outscore Curwensville, 18-14, to take a slim two-point advantage into halftime. Still, Curwensville’s close play kept them honest, guessing, and made it important for both squads to come out in the second half charging hard.
Only one team managed that.
The Tide have experienced issues this season with one quarter not being the best effort, and on this night the third quarter cost them greatly. Purchase Line forced tough shots, and short possessions, doubling up the scoring, to take a 40-30 lead into the final quarter.
Curwensville would finish the final quarter with a tough 17 points, doing so with many in foul trouble. Evan McCartney would foul out in the final quarter, finishing with 11 points. He would be one of three players that bucketed 11 points for the Tide, with Owen Dimmick and Tuck Tkacik also matching on the stat line.
Nolan Eagle paced everyone with a 15-point effort for Purchase Line. Stephen Perruso was right behind with 13 points.
Only four games remain for Curwensville (2-16) on the season, three of them away from home. Next up will be a Saturday game on the road against North Star. Tip-off will be at 5:30 p.m.
